PS 10 uses a modified Teachers College workshop model to teach writing. It was developed at Columbia University. The basic premise of this model is that students become better writers by writing. We believe that writing is a process. We start each unit by collecting ideas. Then we draft, revise, edit, and finally publish our very best work. The main rule is that in Writers' Workshop, we are always writing. Most nights, for homework, students will be given a free write. What this means is that a student may write about anything he or she wants.
